A finish! vbg

I can proudly announce another finish to tick off my to do list and I must say it always gives me a rather large grin of smug self satisfaction that yes,yes after roughly 2 years in the UFO pile I have finally put my mind to it and with shear determination I and I alone have finished something . . . . . . .anyway enough of blowing my own trumpet I have to say it couldn't have been done without one of DH's delicious homemade mince pie's and a lovely cup of tea or perhaps it was several? All I know is new year will me a little less sewing and a little more exercise,as I have to admit I have gained a few extra christmas pounds and sadly no I'm not talking money.
Mmm lovely sweet mince pie with orange flavoured pastry . . . . . . . .I might just have to have one now?

Christmas 2011

Our christmas 2011!Well we started it off by doing plenty of christmas baking and Alice and Hamish got well  stuck in and really enjoyed themselves.
And the result's from there baking didn't last long they were soon scoffed up!We baked cup cakes, mince pies and sausage roll's all this with plenty of assistance from my two little helper's.
5.15am christmas morning Alice woke the whole house because she said she was just too excited to sleep.
Hamish was thrilled to bit's with what he got the main thing being Buzz lightyear,it's all he has talked about for months and every time someone has asked him what he want's for christmas the same answer A BIG BUZZ LIGHTYEAR is the reply. So much so that his pre-school teacher said on his last day of term I hope you've got him Buzz lightyear!I have enjoyed the last week off and have made the most of not having to get up in a rush in the morning's on our first morning off we didn't get dressed til gone 10 . . . . .tut!tut!
And I've even done some crafting and will very shortly have a few bit's to show you,and thanks to my lovely neighbour who kindly gave me a big bin bag brimming with wool a week before christmas!I'm already planning a crochet blanket for Hamish and I found just the pattern tonight in blogland.
I hope you've all had a lovely christmas and I wish you all the best for 2012! xx

It's starting to look alot like christmas + some progress!

Well the kid's broke up from school on friday. And on friday Hamish had his christmas party where he played   party games like pass the parcel, and the above stocking was part of a kit he won. When he came home he said excitedly "I can knit like you now mummy".So today with a little help from me . . . .mainly the stitching actually,we made this stocking together.
Yesterday I reluctantly trimmed the house and tree with decoration's,I had been putting it off because last year I put it all up far too early and by the time we got to christmas day I was fed up with it all plus the fact that when it came to taking it all down it was very dusty from our solid fuel stove.
Also the front room is a little on the small side and it mean's re-arranging furniture to make the tree fit,but I can't bear the thought of parting with the tree I just love it!I don't want to replace it with some weedy looking slimline thing!
Stocking's up in preparation for santa Hamish is just sooo excited and perhap's ever so slightly confused. And despite all my moaning I too can't wait for christmas morning to see his and Alice's face.
And I've actually managed to get a little crafting done too!In my last week at work I knocked up this little christmas brooch for a colleague.
And I'm starting my new year's resolution's early by finishing some UFO's,starting with this Michael Powell cross stitch that has been lying around for the last 3 or 4 year's.And in the last 2 day's I must say I am well over half way to finishing! To say that when I picked it up on saturday the white house only had a bit of roof and the top window's done (vbg).
Hopefully I shall have this finished before christmas but I won't make any promises as life often get's in the way of the best made plan's.Not sure what I shall get on with next I have a jelly roll to use and a half started small lap quilt.Oooh and I almost forgot the crochet blanket that has been on going since the summer, which I might add you can see if you check back through my old post's.

A christmas miracle

I wanted to share with you just the best news in the world. My little boy Hamish was born with a hole in his heart and various other problems, today he went for a heart scan to see if the hole had gone? And the answer was a wonderful YES,YES,YES!
This trip to the hospital wasn't of course without trantrum's and flat refusal once we had arrived in the car park not only to not get out of the car but to once prized from the car he then refused to walk and plonked himself down on the ground and screamed as if being murdered! In the end there was nothing for it I picked him up and carried him.He then sat in the waiting room for over an hour as the clinic was running let and whinged I want to go home, but thank's to a very nice and patient visiting dental nurse she eventually managed to coax him out of his shell and actually managed to get a smile out of him.He reluctantly had his scan and was given the all clear YIPPEE!!
Just the best christmas present ever! ;-)

Another finish!

I'm on fire at the moment a couple more finishes this week,I can hardly believe it (vbg).I just love these coatser's they are Renee Macintosh design, sadly I won't be keeping them as they are part of a secret santa gift along with the pot holder below. Also another finish for me this week. What to do with myself now?Start something new or look for something else to finish???Believe you me there's plenty of UFO's floating about in my numerous craft corner's and soo many thing's I'd love to be starting too!
Ooooh I'm so excited about the thought of christmas and just yesterday morning Hamish woke me at around 6am and asked me if santa had been and if it had been snowing?Today he asked me "Mummy when is it going to snow?"Sooo many questions from someone so small. And often the questions he ask's I cannot possibly answer or the answer would be far too complicated for him to understand like "Mummy how is metal made?".He is such a little non-stop chatter box at the moment.

Crochet christmas wreath finish!

Ta-dah I have finished another WIP my crochet christmas wreath  with knitted holly leaves and berries, the berries are made from a sparkly red acrylic yarn that give's a little christmas sparkle shame the picutre doesn't show it so well.
And yesterday on an extremely grey and gloomy morning there was this beautiful rainbow.I had a little dig around too yesterday in my crafting corner and found all sorts of thing's I didn't realise I had plus an awful lot of WIP stuffed away in numerous corner's,which got me to thinking that perhap's I should have a pre-new year resolution to finish off some of these half started projects one of which is a small quilt.Plus whilst rummaging through my fabric and yarn stash I realised I have alot of thing's I'd like to have a go at making which include a patchwork picnic rug and a quilt for my bed, oooh and new cushion cover's for the living room.

Wah-hoo a finish!

Yippee a finish I finally have a finish to show you after months of nothing! This is a christmas present for Alice,I have made her this lovely girlie footmuff for her doll's pram knowing her it won't stay white for very long and I have already made a start on my next finish which I was going to let you have a sneak peak of and then decided against it.I thought it won't be long before my next project is complete so I shall make you wait for the grand reveal and lets just say it is also on the christmas theme.I shall leave you for now feeling quite pleased with myself vbg ;-)).

Sorry it's been sooo long!

It's been soo long since I last blogged!Life has been so hectic of late I really haven't had the time.So here is a little of what we've been up to!Alice had her halloween disco at the end of october DH was responsible for the face painting which I might add said on the box washable with warm soapy water and I can inform you it was not and Alice went round for 2 day's after with a green tinge to her face . . . . . .so tesco thank you very much for dying my little witch green.
I was left to carve the pumpkin this year as the washing machine decided to stop working and eject all it's water all over the kitchen floor not once but 3 or 4 times, nevermind I now have a new toy lol!
But not in time for this mess!Hamish started pre-school in september and on this particular occassion they played with flour and water what a mess!
And autumn is well and truly here with the leaves dropping from the tree's and the day's a little chillier of late these are the last of DH's summer dahlia's.We've been lucky enough not to have to light the fire until quite recently as it's been quite mild for the time of year.
And a very small make one of my crochet brooch's for the school pfta fundraiser.I have got a few WIP which will very shortly be finished and I shall post very soon.I hope you are all well in which ever part of the world you are and thank you to my patient reader's for hanging in there. ;-)

Growing up!

My,my how time fly's?Hamish recently started pre-school and next year he will be at school full-time,my baby is growing up too fast! Here he is already for his first day.
And this is Hamish all covered in flour and water from a morning at pre-school and oh-boy did he have a good time I can you tell?
And very recently my little girl celebrated her 6th birthday, she got a couple of craft tub's among other thing's and decided she wanted to try her hand at a little sewing, with a little help from mummy she made this little felt purse which she has since decorated with glitter so I shall have to up-date the photo for you all to see!
And she insisted this year on a bright pink cake! Not much crafting from my neck of the wood's for sometime I'm ashamed to admit . . . . .  . . .or shall I say plenty of WIP but no finish's to show you as yet, progress is very slow and there just doesn't seem to be enough hour's in the day.I'm sure most of you will know what I mean, sometime's when I do find a little time for myself I'm just too tired to do anything. And now I'm thinking about christmas and gift making and that it isn't really that far away, there's a place not far from us that sell's free range turkey's and they have a sign out on the road side counting down the day's to christmas I went past about a week ago and to my horror it read only 85 day's to go!I thought to myself surely that can't be right, can it??

Friday 9 September 2011

WIP's and some pretty flowers!

I have 2 project's on the go at the moment and seeing as progress is rather slow I thought I'd show you what I've done so far.First of all is my night time project when the light isn't too good,my crochet blanket,my second crochet blanket the first one was a doll's blanket last christmas for Alice, not sure if that one count's or not?
And then my project for day time is this tractor panel that I got from Louise at sew scrumptious when we did a FQ swap. She sent me this lovely panel as an extra gift for Hamish. It was 4 tractor's in a row but I cut it in half and then stitched it back together to make a cushion panel which I am hand quilting.
And just a few of the lovely flower's growing in the garden this summer. Before of course thing's start to die off for the winter. This week has been alot cooler and wetter.
I wonder what everyone else is working on at the moment?

A little space to call my own!

Finally I have been evicted from the kitchen table and after 4 long year's I have a place to call my own.My very own creative space for sewing and crafting.
I'm soo excited I've got all sort's of great idea's of the thing's I want to make for my new creative space and in a flash of creative inspiration I have decided what I'm going to do with the jelly roll my mum bought for me 2 year's ago for my birthday, but more about that later.
Now all I need to make my little corner complete is some shelving for my ever growing fabric stash and a lovely little CK set of mini storage drawers that I've seen on her website.
And in between sorting out my little sewing corner I even managed to fit in some bread making,I recently started making a cheese top loaf on a regular basis even though the kid's don't like it.I love it and it mean's I get it all to myself!Very naughty I know . . . . . . but nice very, very nice ;-) Mmmm!
And Alice wanted me to show you this a banofee pie she made with just a little grown up help and delicious it was too!

Thursday 25 August 2011

Oooh how I love Cath Kidston!

I just adore just about everything Cath Kidston and when I saw this sewing tin going for a fairly reasonable price I knew then and there whether I needed it or not I wanted it real bad and I just had to have it!
And this morning I rather impatiently paced up and down for the second morning in a row waiting for the postman and I was thrilled I have to say when he handed me not one but two parcel's.
And this is what was in the second one a rather lovely colourful owl pattern fabric for a project I have planned for Alice for christmas.More about that one later.
And later by courier arrived these adorable matching mummy and daughter slipper's!
Well I couldn't see Hamish go without so I got him some hairy monster feet with claw's,the claw's being the important bit,he was really taken with the claw's infact it was the first thing he noticed.
